My gosh, this new year is off to an insane start!
Part of the craziness is me: I've been bitten by the "simplify" bug, and have been cleaning closets, cupboards, anything that enters my field of vision and looks too cluttered. Getting rid of stuff you don't use anymore is such an incredibly liberating feeling - but of course has to be accompanied by a commitment to stop acquiring more. I've made the commitment - let's see if I live up to it.
The minute the holidays are over, Korean Focus heads into Lunar New Year season. I had a meeting yesterday at the church that co-sponsors with us, followed by a shopping spree (not for me, for the craft sale we hold at the event) in our Annandale Koreatown. We found some great stuff and got a couple of donations from the shopowners for the raffle that will end the event. That, plus a bowl of pho afterward with my shopping buddy, made it a good, but exhausting, day.
Third Dad and The Girl were in Colorado Springs for the USA Taekwondo 2009 team qualifier - and The Girl made the finals, woo hoo! She qualified in two fights, and because of her history of injury (one ACL replacement will be enough for us, thank you very much), bowed out of the last two rounds. In a qualifier, it makes no difference where you place, you just need to be in the top four, so it makes good sense. I talked to her on the phone today from Houston, and she was tired, but very happy. The finals take place in Austin, Texas on April 24th - my brother's birthday, which has to be a good omen!
The Boy goes back to school tomorrow :( He's had a quiet holiday, and has spent most of it online playing a game with a bunch of friends. When Third Dad and I have voiced our concern about the amount of time he's been online, his logic is that he won't be able to play at all when he's back, so he's sort of playing it forward. He and I are going out to dinner tonight to celebrate what has been a super holiday. I'm gonna miss him.
I've got a couple of KAAN proposals to finish up today - remember, if you're planning on attending the KAAN Conference in Denver in July, proposals are due via email on January 15th. I've also got a bunch of Korean Focus stuff to catch up on - sales taxes, membership database updates, but I think I'll save them for next week, which is going to be much quieter. Nothings so time sensitive that a week will make a difference.
And that's about it for this Sunday. Later!
