Snow day

We're blanketed with a lovely layer of snow here in DC, and I'm taking a personal day. The Girl's school was closed, The Boy's home for spring break, and Third Dad is reading the paper in the kitchen. I'm going to use the day to relax and catch up on odds and end, and to enjoy just being with my family for no particular reason.

Now, those of you who have been shoveling this stuff in buckets are unlikely to agree, but I think it's lovely. And for whatever reason, weather like this makes me more productive, so here's to a day of crossing things off my ridiculously long to-do list (which by the way I'm going to bring under control this year through the use of two proven tools: the word no, and a new Franklin planner; am I the only one who things electronic calendars are more trouble than they're worth?)

8 points of view:

  1. lovely. I had heard on the news that you guys were covered in snow and I was thinking of you. Glad you have a nice day to enjoy as a result!

And for the record, I think Franklin planners are more trouble than THEY'RE worth! I'm a month-at-a-glance kind of girl myself :)

  2. LOLOL about the planner! Mine is probably just like a month-at-a-glance, just bigger. It's got a calendar, pages for each day for call records and such (which I need for work), and then a notebook section where I can keep all my volunteer stuff.

What makes this one really useful for me is, of all things, the bookmark, which you move every day. It's a little task list, so anytime I add a to-do, it's right there.

It is bulky, so I've got a little tiny calendar I keep in my purse that I keep synced up with the planner calendar. And hallelujah, I finally feel like I'm getting organized again!

  3. How beautiful!! (but I'm freezing, and I'd rather see your pictures than the actual thing)

I'm a month-at-a-glance person too. Dh got me the calendar-only version of his pda so we could share data. Instead, I use the interface on the computer, and I only look at a month -- at a glance.

  4. All digital here. I do my calendar on gmail and have it emailed to me daily! I love the paper, binder, leather of a planner but never use it. Its bulky. Having everything on my iPhone is much easier.

Snow day here too. Kinda. Boys home from school but I am telecommuting (which means I check email occassional and do a few things). We are also at my bf's as my sewage problem continues at the humble abode.

Lovely snow? Hmmm. Questionable. Pretty but I am so done with it.

  5. Yikes to the sewage issue, Suz, no fun! I hear you about being done with the snow, too - my mom in Cleveland has pretty much the same reaction when I mention it. But this is only our second big snow, so for me it's still fun.

I thought about telecommuting and do have a call at 4, but decided to take the day for me instead. And I'm loving it.

  6. I am a paper-planner woman and always have been.

You know I am not very sentimental, but about my planners, yes, probably the only thing.

I love seeing the different colored pens from the weeks before, the glitter pink carefully written notes, and the black scrawled in a hurry while on the phone notes, my planner is full of intials that only mean something to me. The thrill of opening each new years fresh, full of blank pages.

This year I got mine from PaperSource and it is the color of a swimming pool, I think that is its official color name. I love it.

  7. I agree with you. I didn't do well with my electronic calendar. I need to see the whole week! I'm attached to my Go Mom organizer!
