Let me tell you about all of my mommies!" said my five-year-old son one day as we sat in our kitchen. He began counting: "There's my first mother in Korea, then Mrs. Cho (his foster mother), and then you - you're my third mom!" So simple to his five-year-old mind - but of course adoption is anything but simple. By sharing my thoughts here I hope to better understand the experience that has shaped my life.I'm Margie, the adoptive mom of two young adults, one out of college and one reaching the end, both adopted from Korea. My adoption experience has been complex, marked with the joy of parenting and having a family, the pain of realizing the price my children and their Korean families have paid for that joy, and an intense interest in Korea, Korean culture and the Korean American community.
This blog is my effort to document and share the things I have learned along my Korean adoption journey. I welcome newcomers and comments; please feel free to speak your mind. Anonymous comments are welcome, just deliver them in the spirit of respectful communication.
Many thanks for stopping by.
